humility
What is it with humility that makes it the most elusive of all virtues? One who thinks he is humble actually isn't, my pastor once said in a sermon. By experience, I know this is true. But it's still a mind-boggling paradox.
Of course there's an exception. Jesus Himself said He was meek and humble of heart. Matt. 11:29 Anything less than that, I think, would be utter blasphemy.
But anyway. Thinking that I'm humble makes me feel very uneasy, especially when I feel that I'm victorious against my own proud spirit. I know something's wrong with the picture. I just can't say exactly what it is.

hi jef!
perhaps being humble is impossible to assess, because by finding out that you are humble, you become prone to being the opposite of it. i mean, you don't become proud right away, but then, you might dwell on that fact, and then you slowly lose your grip on being humble.

The meek shall inherit the earth. Dwelling on the facts doesn't negate it. There is no thin wall between pride and humility - on the other hand I see a Great Wall with armored sentries between the two. The proud believes that he doesn't need a Savior, the meek believes he cannot live without one. God bless you Jef.

very nice, Jef, very nice. :)
aye, there's the rub...
so when can one achieve humility? i certainly know i haven't. i suppose one can't really claim to be humble--because that just might be when one isn't. =)
this is a nice question that we can ask God when we get home.
